Fall 2021 Starts on a Wednesday
April 13, 2021
The first day of classes for Fall 2021 will start on Wednesday, Aug. 11.
Administrators planned the university calendar this way in order to plan for the full schedule of “student-focused” activities designed to enhance students’ experiences of returning to campus. These activities may include music events, meet-and-greets, picnics, recreational activities and volunteer opportunities.
“We want to make sure that you and all of our new students have the opportunity to learn about Georgia Southern’s traditions, create connections with peers, faculty and staff, and be well-informed of enrollment milestones and resources to attain successful support in your journey as an Eagle,” according to the email from the University Communications and Marketing.
The university plans to resume normal operations including face-to-face classes, full dining and housing operations, student services, activities, and events, but this decision may change to meet public health guidelines laid out by the Georgia Department of Public Health and the Center for Disease Control.
The semester will end on Tuesday, Nov. 30 so the semester’s classes can meet the accreditation standards set by The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).
The SACSCOC is “the recognized regional accrediting body” for eleven southern states and Latin America.
