Georgia Southern issued a press release on April 20 announcing that the Masters of Public Administration program will be coming to the Armstrong campus starting in the Fall of 2021.

Georgia Southern’s MPA program has been around since 1973, and the same program will now be offered in Savannah. The current plan is for each course to be half online and half in-person.

In-person classes will utilize site-synchronous classrooms that will allow students from the Armstrong and Statesboro campuses to attend together. These new steps in technology have made it possible to make the programs on both campuses as identical as possible. 

The program offers students two specializations: Non-profit management and public management. It aims to enhance Savannah’s public workforce, and provide well-equipped personnel for non-profit organizations that can better the community.

The MPA program has sent Georgia Southern graduates off to exciting careers. Per Georgia Southern’s press release: “The MPA program at Georgia Southern boasts a wide network of alumni who work with organizations like the U.S. Department of Treasury, Federal Aviation Administration, the city of Savannah and the Boys and Girls Club of America, among others.”

Any student who would like to learn more about the program can attend any of three Zoom recruitment events on May 12 and June 9. More information can be found on the Department of Public and Non-Profit Studies web page on Georgia Southern’s website.

Update as of Apr. 28, 2021: The MPA Program’s expansion to the Armstrong Campus has been delayed, per John Lester, Vice President of Communications and Marketing at Georgia Southern University. 

“The end result of this delay will be a stronger MPA program that is ready to meet the needs of our students and communities in the Southeast Georgia region,” said Lester via email. 

“The MPA program offered on the Statesboro campus maintains robust enrollments and high quality offerings in a unique and student friendly hybrid course delivery format that allows students the ability to work and advance their education.”

As of this writing, no further announcements have been made as to when the full course offerings will be made available on the Armstrong campus.
