Georgia voters approve all five amendments, Statesboro voters approve Brunch Referendum

Voters in Georgia approved all five of the amendments on this year’s ballot, including the heavily televised Marsy’s Law.

According to WTOC, all five amendments on this year’s ballots were approved.

Amendment 1:

The Portion of Revenue from Outdoor Recreation Equipment Sales Tax Dedicated to Land Conservation Fund Amendment passed with 83 percent of votes, according to WTOC.

The amendment will create a stewardship fund, funded by a special sales tax that will work to protect water quality, wildlife habitat and parks in Georgia.

Amendment 2:

The Business Court Amendment was passed with 69 percent of the vote, according to WTOC.

The amendment will create a state-wide business court, as well as the creation of procedures and rules for the court.

Amendment 3:

The Forest Land Conservation and Timberland Properties Amendment passed with approval by 62 percent of voters, according to WTOC. This amendment changes the way that Georgia values forest land conservation use property.

Amendment 4:

The Marsy’s Law Crime Victim Rights Amendment passed with 81 percent of the vote according to WTOC. Marsy’s Law creates more rights for victim’s of crime. These rights include:

  • The right to be treated with fairness, dignity and respect
  • The right to notice of all proceedings involving the alleged criminal
  • The right to be heard at any proceedings involving that release, plea or sentencing of the accused
  • The right to be informed of their rights

Amendment 5:

The School Sales Tax Referendums Amendment passed with 71 percent of votes according to WTOC. This amendment allows school districts with a majority of students in the county to levy sales taxes for educational purposes.

Brunch referendum:

The Brunch Referendum passed with 68 percent of the vote, according to The Statesboro Herald.

The referendum allows restaurants in Statesboro to serve alcoholic beverages at 11 a.m. on Sundays instead of the current time of 12:30 p.m.
