Drake and Kanye West Projects: Where are the Albums?

…and why are they so late?

It’s been over half a year since Drake’s Certified Lover Boy (CLB) was supposed to hit all music streaming services; and it’s been well over a month since Kanye West moved in (and since moved out) of Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia for the first DONDA Listening Party.

Last October, Drake teased that his sixth studio LP, Certified Lover Boy, would be released in January of this year. It’s nearly September now and there’s still nothing new from Drake on the airwaves. Kanye West’s 10th studio album, DONDA, was originally set to be released to the world in late July. West and his team have pushed the DONDA album release back multiple times since its initial date. Fans still aren’t sure whether or not it will actually be released on the night of the next listening party in West’s hometown of Chicago.

Many are speculating that Kanye has been setting up for an album battle against Drake since late July. The two rappers have been seeming to act accordingly to one another’s album delays. As of right now, West’s DONDA is scheduled to be released on August 27th, but no one knows if he will actually decide to drop the album or not.

While Kanye has been hosting listening parties, Drake has been shaving a heart into his head to promote the highly anticipated LP.

While the two have collaborated on tracks in the past, such as “Best I Ever Had” and “Pop Style,” the rap stars have had their fair share of conflict.

This supposed “album battle” has apparently been in the making for quite some time, as Drake and West have had beef with each other for years now. Years ago, the two rappers had a conflict over a beat that would later go to Kanye; the beat became one of West’s 2018 singles, “Lift Yourself.”

It is also known that West took Pusha T’s side in the Drake and Pusha T feud, where Pusha T brought up allegations of Drake’s ghostwriting.

As the Chicago rapper has been pushing back his album, he’s been adding more and more features. As of right now, Lil Baby, Travis Scott, Kid Cudi, Jay-Z and several others are on the feature lineup for the 24-track album.

As for Drake, the Toronto-based rapper has an impressive list of features on his album as well. It is rumoured that Nicki Minaj, Ariana Grande, Future, Jessie Reyez and Charlie Puth will accompany the superstar on CLB.

California rapper Roddy Ricch, Billboard’s Top New Artist of 2020, is reportedly featured on both upcoming albums.

As another listening party approaches and the days of August quickly pass by, it is unclear whether or not the world will hear either Certified Lover Boy or DONDA before September starts.

More updates on both albums will follow as more information is released.
