September 27, 2021
On Monday morning, just one day after the Eagles fell to 1-3 to begin the season, the athletics department announced that Chad Lunsford would be relieved of his head coaching duties.
As expected, many Eagle fans were left shocked. However, the Twitter sphere was lit up with many differing opinions.
Here are some of the highlights, filled with thoughts from former players and fans.
Former defensive end Traver Vliem:
In the words of Roy Jones, “y’all must’ve forgot”
He took a 2-10 team and led them to 10-3.
Made an immediate Impact when he took over in 18’.
Gave the program their only two top 25 wins. Y’all must’ve forgot. The grass isn’t always greener on the other side, hopefully it is

First off, Coach Lunsford you didn’t deserve this man. I’ve seen you turn so many kids lives around including me! You’re one hell of a coach, mentor, and leader!

Some more opinions from GS fans:
Chad Lunsford took the time to invest in our university and our students more than most high school coaches do. We will miss you so much!!! https://t.co/iRpfx9A5Ib

Listen, I love Coach Lunsford (hence the username). He seems like a good dude who really loves his players. This is certainly not how I wanted this to happen. But there are certain things that just cannot be tolerated. I wish him and his family the best.

Georgia Southern has finally fired Chad Lunsford. He has destroyed that program that used to be so good back when I was in school there. https://t.co/DocLV8tMPW
