With two home losses, women’s soccer falls to 2-4 in Sun Belt play

Georgia Southern is now on a loss streak of three after a weekend of playing and a weekend of losses. First falling to Troy Friday and then to Texas State Sunday, the Eagles now hold an overall record of 4-9 and a conference record of 2-4.
Troy (L, 1-2)
The Eagles fell to Troy Friday while they struggled to find the back of the net.
The Trojans were quick to score by finding the goal in just the 13th minute of play, taking advantage of a clustered and confused Eagle defense.
From there the Eagle offense had high pressure on the Trojan defense but were unable to connect with the goal.
The Trojans struck again in the first half to give them a 2-0 lead in the 36th minute after red-shirt senior goalkeeper Jocelyn Springer found herself out of position giving the Trojans an open net to score on.
The Eagles finished the half still down by two but came out strong in the second half as Brogan Boudreaux took advantage of a free kick right outside the box as she sent her shot into the top right of the net.
“We were all over them in the second half but couldn’t find the equalizer,” head coach Brian Dunleavy said to gseagles.com. “With that said, I still feel as though we beat ourselves tonight, it stings, but we have to take a lot of positive out of this performance.”
The Eagles held their high pressure, but it wasn’t enough as the Trojans came out on top 2-1.
Texas State (L, 0-3)
The Eagles were back in action just two days after playing Troy and were shut out with the help of some early goals from the Texas State Bobcats.
TXST came out swift and aggressive as they found the back of the net in the first five minutes of contest and then again just two minutes later.
The Bobcats continued their scoring streak by finding the back of the net again in the 19th minute of play.
The Eagles were having a little trouble possessing the ball in the first half and only had two shots, but they rallied in the second as they tallied 12 total shots for the half- giving the Eagles the edge in shots over TXST 14-11 despite the loss.
“It’s very rare to absolutely dominate the majority of the game and still lose three nothing,” Dunleavy said. “We’ve got to find a way to start games better than we are, we gave the best player in the conference time and space to finish her chances.”
The Eagles will be back in action Friday at Eagle Field as they take on Coastal Carolina. The game will be streamed on ESPN+ at 7:00 p.m.
