A 19-year-old student was found dead in his truck Sunday afternoon, after University Police responded to a report of a sick person at the RAC parking lot Sunday afternoon, according to a UPD police report.

The GBI was called to take over the case after they discovered the body of John Dijkstra, according to Jennifer Wise, Director of Communications.

“An autopsy has been scheduled and we are awaiting the results,” GBI told The George-Anne. At this moment, the cause of death is still not confirmed.

“As a reminder to all Georgia Southern students, the Counseling Center is always available to help students,” Wise said in a statement. “Call 912-478-5541 (Statesboro) or 912-344-2529 (Armstrong/Liberty) 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
