The Georgia Southern University’s Armstrong campus is filled with diversity and joyous energy. Ranging from the students who skate to class to other students who participate in intramural sports, this campus is teeming with all walks of life from just about everywhere. However, the question that should be asked is, do we really know each other and who we are as people?

Introducing this new segment, the George-Anne Inkwell staff will randomly select students, staff and teachers on campus and give them an opportunity to explain who they are and what their story means to them. This segment will be known as “The Faces of Armstrong”, bringing light to those who may not be known of or those you just see in passing every other day.

This familiar face among the students of Armstrong is none other than Ben Morris!

Ben, currently 23 years old, is a senior and a worker representative at the CRI Center on the GSU Armstrong campus. Growing up, Ben and his sister lived most of their life in the Savannah Area, enjoying the breathtaking scenery and living a chill, down to earth life.

Stopping by the CRI Center, you’ll either see Ben working at the front desk helping students swipe in to workout or attend an event, or see him in another section within the center helping out fellow students with equipment. He’s the perfect representation of who to go to when in need of help at the center. With this in mind, let’s get to know Ben Morris more on a personal level.

Inkwell Staff:
“Alright Ben, tell me about yourself. What led you to attend Georgia Southern?

Ben M.:
“Interesting enough, I actually came here when it was Armstrong. Even my parents attended here and this is where they met. I live locally and I’ve been here my whole life, so I didn’t want to go anywhere and spend a lot of money because my sister went to California for her college for acting etc., but I didn’t want to do that.

I was like, I don’t wanna spend a lot of money. I don’t want to be in debt. So I decided on Armstrong because I live like 10 minutes away, and was able to save a lot of money. I also wanted to make sure I was in Georgia because I had a scholarship.

Eventually Georgia Southern bought the campus and so that’s kind of the reason I’m here. I never decided to leave. My overall experience here on campus has been really good. I liked it. It’s…kind of big, but it’s also small, if you know what I mean. Like in Statesboro we don’t have to walk like 30 minutes just to get to a building.

Inkwell Staff:
“What are you majoring in and what do you love about it?”

Ben M.:
“My major was Computer Science but I decided to change it to Information Technology, IT for short and have Computer Science as my minor now. I switched to IT because it was the closest thing to computer science, but didn’t have calculus two…haha. There’s a lot of work that goes into IT. For example, I have a senior capstone project and we’re making a chatbot for the school, actually. But, you know, there’s a lot of information to cover when it comes to this school.

Inkwell Staff:
Can I ask for more information about the Chatbot or does it need to be secret until it comes out?

Ben M.:
I genuinely don’t know, but I feel it would be better if it was kept as a secret about what the chatbot will do because when this semester finishes, it won’t be ready, because there’s no way that three people in one semester could write a chatbot that can cover everything for this school. Yes, my professor will have other students work on it, but it will take some time. However, once this chatbot finishes development, it will help assist fellow students throughout campus.

Inkwell Staff:
“What’s the best memory or funny experience that you have had at the CRI?

Ben M.:
“That’s probably my most memorable thing would be working at the CRI because I didn’t really do much other than come to class and go home. Plus I work there so I can go work out after, once my shift is over. My most memorable experience at the CRI was when we were training. It was essentially a staff bonding event but with training such as teamwork activities, games and events that favored teamwork. Afterwards we were trained on how to manage the cash register and training equipment.”

Inkwell Staff:
“Is there anything you would like to add?

Ben M.:
I would say to anyone in college, always try to get a good eight hours of sleep and work out. Like for real…Because like my first semester, I would stay up till like 4 am doing homework every night. I had focused on my school work so much, it began to hurt my social life and that is nowhere near healthy. But then I was like, alright, you know what? Let’s start working out and have a set sleep schedule. I couldn’t tell you how good that is for mental health, especially how stressful colleges are. Because I know most college students don’t sleep a lot. We eat bad and we don’t sleep too well. Yeah, get that sleep. Even if it means you got to cut out something like a party or something. Please get some sleep.
