Eurydice Preview
On Thursday, January 26, 2023, the Georgia Southern Theater Department at Armstrong Campus will premiere its production of “Eurydice” in the Jenkins Black Box Theatre. The play, set in the 1950s, is a modernized retelling of the Ancient Greek, tragic love story of Orpheus and Eurydice.
Student Director Grace Paulos explained how this production is a bit different from the typical Mainstage productions, describing it as a “blank canvas that leaves the imagination of the story up to the audience.”
“The playwright, Sarah Ruhl, is revered for rewriting stories. I’m so excited to tackle that.” Paulos said.
When asked to speak on her cast and the show’s process, Paulos stated, “This show is not cut and dry; it’s actually very weird. It’s important to have a cast so open to creativity. The cast was open to my ideas and free to offer their own. It’s been great to have that respect to have that sort of back and forth.”
The cast will feature Logan Western as Orpheus, Bloom Andrade as Eurydice, Ethan Goble as Lord of the Underworld, Ben Longren as Eurydice’s Father, and the Chorus of Stones, which includes Cameron Saypack as Big Stone, Gabby Reilly as Little Stone, and Makayla Bynes as Loud Stone.
The production will run on January 26, 27, and 28, 2023, at 7:30 pm in the Blackbox Theatre. General admission is $10, and students, faculty, and staff get in free with Eagle IDs.
