GS WBB are now 13-4 overall and 5-3 in the Sun Belt after taking down first places James Madison and gaining their 6th straight road win against ULM.

The Eagles are now 7-1 on the road which is their longest road winning streak since 2009.

  • Taya Gibson, eagle of the game, made 6 out of 9 shots from the field and 5 out of 7 free throws for 17 points and a career high of 4 assists.
  • During Coach Anita Howard’s post game interview, “After leading 35-25 at halftime, ULM outscored Georgia Southern 11-3 over the first 4:18 of the second stanza, and a Langston Powell triple extended the margin to 46-28. The lead never dipped below 14 the rest of the contest.”

GS brought JMU 13 game winning streak to an end with this 4-point win.

  • During her post game interview Anita Howard stated, “This is one we needed. Our spirits were down a bit, after going 0-2 at home last week. And to come in here facing the undefeated big dog, riding a 13-game winning streak – we ended up treating it like another game, so the players wouldn’t be nervous. But I challenged them to rebound and defend. And we got back to doing that.”
  • Game stats:
  1.  Ward scored in double figures for the 16th time this season, hitting three three-pointers and also narrowly missing a double-double with nine rebounds.
  2.  In a duel of the league’s two top scorers, Ward finished with 23 while JMU’s Kiki Jefferson ended the night with eight.
  3. Georgia Southern finished the game with 53 rebounds, and the +16 rebounding margin was the largest for the Eagles against a Sun Belt opponent this season.

Georgia Southern returns home to Hanner to host Louisiana on Thursday, January 26, in a 6 p.m. Sun Belt Conference contest against the Ragin’ Cajuns.
