The Club Car Championship, a staple of the PGA Tour’s developmental circuit, is taking place at The Landings in Savannah, Georgia, this weekend, bringing with it a sense of excitement and energy to the scenic coastal community.

The tournament features a field of 156 golfers competing for a $1,000,000 purse and is the fourth stop on the Korn Ferry Tour’s 2023 schedule. The event allows golfers to earn valuable points in the race for a spot on the PGA Tour.

With beautiful views of the Intracoastal Waterway, The Landings provided an ideal setting for the tournament. The community’s 6,300-acre plot boasts six golf courses, including the host course, Deer Creek Golf Club. The course, which features narrow fairways and challenging greens, provided a tough test for the competitors throughout the week.

“The small but mighty crowd is in awe of the talent on display here today. It’s not just about the power of the swings or the accuracy of the shots; it’s about the mental focus and determination of these players,” Patrick Swansboro, director of community relations, said.

Despite the difficult conditions, several golfers rose to the challenge on the first round of action, including Armstrong State alumni Shad Tuten, who shot -4 in the first round of play.

“You can’t win it on the first day, but you can most certainly lose it,” Tuten said.

The Fan Zone, located on the rear end of the practice range, offers a range of entertainment options from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday through Sunday. Visitors can enjoy a game of miniature golf, relish tasty tacos, purchase tournament memorabilia, and indulge in other activities.

You can test your swing or quench your thirst at Leopold’s Ice Cream Cart. The Fan Zone caters to the entire family, with a Kids’ Inflatable Area equipped with Birdie Ball and the Ghost Pirates Slap Shot. Additionally, don’t forget to participate in the Club Car Onward Coloring Contest, where the winner will receive exciting rewards and be selected by the 2023 tournament champion.
