SGA: “Let this be the year that we rebuild”

By John Wright

SGA is ready to rebuild the financial award ‘Eagles For Eagles’. Blake Robinson, SGA President has high hopes that this year will be one of the best for SGA.

What’s new: Eagles for Eagles is a financial award for any student struggling to pay their: rent/utility bills, tuition balances, groceries, books, and other school supplies.

  • Currently the application for Eagles for Eagles is closed due to low funding. Because Eagles for Eagles is funded through donations from students, faculty, and staff, the SGA has had to pivot.

Why it matters: With the amount of money in the fund only two students could be fully funded. The lack of funds has forced SGA to close the application and create new solutions.

  • “We are currently working on numerous fundraising initiatives to raise money for the fund” said Robinson. The Dollar-a-Day Campaign is going from Sept. 1 to Sept. 30, students can donate everyday and help support students in need.

The proceeds from Eagles Got Talent will help fund the Eagles for Eagles award. Eagles Got Talent will be held on Oct. 19.

  • For more information on Eagles Got Talent visit the SGA’s Instagram page @_gsusga

What’s next: Some promotions with the university and fundraising nights at local restaurants are also in the works to maximize support for Eagles For Eagles.

  • More details on those are coming soon. For any student struggling financially “Funds will become available again in early September” said Robinson.
