Following a 2-game losing streak, the Georgia Southern women’s basketball team begins a 3-game home stretch, which begins this weekend with two teams from Louisiana.

University of Louisiana-Monroe (4-17;1-9)

Coming into this game, ULM is 1-9 in the Sun Belt, struggling as of late with a 7-game losing streak.

Their last win was against Coastal Carolina, a team that GS matched up really well against, but ultimately lost the hard fought battle.

Although the Warhawks have lost 7 in a row, 5 of those games were decided by 10 points or less, and should not be taken lightly.

ULM has a slightly better offense, however, their defense is similar to GS, indicating this will be a close matchup.

GS will need to keep their eye on Gabriella Cortez, a 5’11 sharpshooting forward. She has a 3-point percentage of .395 to go along with an overall field goal percentage of .456.

Cortez also needs to be contained in the paint, averaging almost 6 rebounds a game and 13 blocks on the season. This game will be aired on ESPN 3 and can be listened to on Georgia Southern Sports Network.

ULL (11-11;6-4)

ULL has proven to be a stronger Sun Belt team, currently in the top 5 in the Sun Belt.

They have are currently on a 1-game win streak. Earlier in the season, they lost to University of Texas Arlington, which is the only conference win for GS this year.

ULL’s strong suit this year is their defense, which allows 64.8 points per game, compared to GS, who allows 70.3 points per game.

Their leaders on defense are freshman, Skyler Goodwin, who averages 1.5 steals per game, and senior, Simone Fields, who has pulled in a team high of 68 defensive rebounds.

On offense, GS needs to look out for senior, Nekia Jones, who averages a team high 10.1 points per game. This game will be broadcasted on Georgia Southern Sports Network.

Georgia Southern (4-18;1-10)

The Eagles are on a 2-game losing streak, however, those were both away games.

The last time that GSU played at home, they had an exciting win against a tough University of Texas Arlington.

With the Eagles having home advantage, they should put up a good fight against these two Louisiana teams.

ULM will play in Hanner Thursday night at 5 p.m. and ULL will visit Saturday at 2 p.m.
