Marshall Women’s basketball hit a record 16 three pointers in Saturday’s game, making it the most from any women’s basketball opponent in Hanner history.
1st Quarter: Marshall held the whole first quarter after scoring their first points from a freethrow followed by Shy Booker giving the eagles their two.
- Marshall managed to hit 5 three pointers in the first quarter while most GS points came from inside the paint.
- Marshall managed to make it hard for the Eagles by staying in a press defense on inbound plays.
- Marshall held an 11-point lead going into the 2nd, 28-19
2nd Quarter: GS trailed by a high 19-points during the 2nd quarter.
- Marshall scored three times before the Eagles could get their first points in the 2nd.
- GS stayed fighting to get on the board, getting a couple of fast break points. The first half finished with Marshall leading by 15
3rd Quarter: The Eagles came into the 2nd half with a different energy immediately doing what they had to catch up with Marshall
- The Eagles scored first in the third followed by two back to back blocks from Simone James and Terren Ward.
- GS also had back to back scores from Ja’nya Love-Hill and Eden Johnson.
- Despite the Eagles semi consistent scoring and bringing the game within single digits, Marshall still held a 16 point at the end of the third.
4th Quarter: The Eagles would not be able to get the game back into single digits for the remainder of the game.
- Marshall got to triple digits taking a 15-point lead with three minutes left in the game.
- Both teams would go back to back scoring but Marshall came out with the win 106-95.
- Ward finished with her 14h double-double of the season 28 points and 11 rebounds. Diamond Stokes and Simone James both finished with 16 and Constance Thomas finished with 9 points.
The Eagles are back on the road next week for their game against Coastal Carolina on Thursday, February 1st at 6 p.m.
