New SGA president to represent all three consolidated campuses
February 6, 2018
The Student Government Association at Georgia Southern University will elect a new president this Spring that will represent all three campuses following the consolidation.
As a result, there will not be a president for the Armstrong State or Liberty Center campuses.
Current SGA President Dylan John said the SGAs of each campus have recently concluded the new election guidelines for the upcoming election.
“Through this, we have concluded the process of developing the new Georgia Southern SGA structure,” John said.
John said the structure, which is pending review and confirmation by the Statesboro and Armstrong senates, will be presented at the first Georgia Southern SGA Convention on Feb. 10.
Proposed structure
The proposed structure is as follows, according to John:
-
Statesboro Campus (40 student senators) – The Statesboro campus will consist of the five Academic Colleges headquartered in Statesboro with five senators each. The College of Graduate Studies will have five senators and the College at Large will have 10 senators to represent the Colleges Headquartered on the Armstrong campus.
-
Armstrong Campus (30 student senators) – The Armstrong campus will consist of the three Academic Colleges Headquartered at our Armstrong campus with five senators each. The College of Graduate Studies will have five senators and the College at Large will have 10 senators to represent the Colleges Headquartered on the Statesboro campus.
-
The Liberty Center Campus will be represented by the Armstrong campus Senate as it currently is.
-
Other elected executives as specified by the constitution and by laws of each campus senate will also be elected specific to each campus.
The president will have a President’s Advisory Council that will help the President carry out his or her administration mission for the year. The proposal for the PAC includes the following standing representatives:
-
Executive Vice President (Statesboro)
-
Executive Vice President (Armstrong)
-
Director of Liberty Center SGA
-
Diversity Advisor (Statesboro)
-
Diversity Advisor (Armstrong)
All students who are eligible to vote across campuses will be able to cast their vote for the new president.
