It’s not a secret that Savannah has a plethora of restaurants that offer delicious food. It can be overwhelming to decide where to grab dinner or a cup of coffee.
I’ve lived in Savannah long enough to become a loyal, returning customer to a few spots around town. This is my non-touristy guide to the restaurants and coffee shops you absolutely need to try in our city!
Restaurants
Al-Salaam Deli
Serving affordable Mediterranean and Middle Eastern dishes and offering a cozy atmosphere, Al-Salaam Deli is a hole-in-the-wall restaurant located on Habersham street. It’s easy to miss if you’re not paying attention, but once you try it it’s difficult to forget. My go-to meal here is the lamb gyro. It’d be a mistake not to get a side of fries, too!
PJ Thai
Take-out Thai food is my ultimate comfort meal, and PJ Thai checks all my boxes when it comes to flavor, service and price! It’s located downtown on Abercorn and East Oglethorpe.
Taqueria El San Luis
When I first moved to Savannah I found it hard to find authentic Mexican food, something that was readily available in my hometown. Taqueria El San Luis, a family-owned establishment, is one of the only Mexican restaurants I’ve found in Savannah that serves genuine Mexican dishes. The smell alone is enough to get you excited for what you’re about to experience. The taste will have you telling all your friends about it.
Midtown Deli
Only about a 10 minute drive from our campus, Midtown Deli has been a Savannah staple for nearly 20 years now. Their menu consists of signature and build-your-own breakfast and lunch sandwiches. They also have a location in Richmond Hill called Uptown Deli.
Coffee
Coffee Deli
If I could only visit one coffee shop for the rest of my life, it would be this one. Don’t let the simple name fool you; their menu offers a delicious assortment of drinks, from black coffee, specialty lattes, tea and smoothies! This cafe has plenty of seating and features new art created by local artists every few weeks. You can find Coffee Deli on Habersham street!
Space Coast Cafe
Just a 5 minute drive from Armstrong, this space-themed coffee shop is a convenient and delicious off-campus spot for a pick-me-up! It’s also a quiet place to study or catch up with a friend. Other than coffee, you can find pastries, smoothies and sandwiches on their menu.
Tybean Coffee
While this isn’t exactly in Savannah, it’s on the way to Tybee Island, making it a great spot to stop and grab a coffee before you relax on the beach. They have rotating flavors, quality espresso and a variety of teas.
Franklin’s
While I do consider Franklin’s to be a tourist spot, it’s also a popular place amongst locals, and for good reason. Hidden down a few steps in the historic district, Franklin’s coffee was established a little over 3 years ago and has proven to Savannah that they know what they’re doing when it comes to coffee and breakfast. Their food is on the pricier side, but worth every penny!
