Georgia Southern’s RAC is heading into the new school year with a facility refresh that includes the addition of new equipment for students and faculty.
According to Gene Sherry, Executive Director of Campus Recreation and Intramurals (CRI), the planning began last fall semester. Sherry explained that the student RAC fees helped pay for the new equipment.
Upon entering the RAC, you’ll see a downstairs area holding plenty of machines and some new weightlifting equipment, but if you head upstairs, you will find more updates.
Here is a list of all the new equipment:
- 12 new treadmills
- 14 new elliptical machines
- Three new steppers (Stair Climbers)
- Six new weight benches
- Two Life Fitness Synergy 360 pieces
- These can be used for many exercises, such as squats, pull-ups, step-ups, and more.
- One Synergy 180 piece
- This piece can be used for storage, and it has some training areas.
I spoke with Jonathan Rivera, the Assistant Director of Fitness at the RAC, who discussed students’ reactions about the additional equipment.
“The student response has been positive, we received multiple compliments ranging from the equipment color choice to the increased number of stair mills to offering additional strength pieces,” Rivera said.
Rivera expanded on the improvements, “On behalf of the Fitness Lead Team, we’re excited to take our fitness programming to the next level while offering new opportunities to inspire students to exercise and build community at CRI.”
