Adding to the list of new businesses in Statesboro, Kelly and Kate Boutique opened their doors on Sept. 14. From shirts to jewelry and everything in between, people are sure to find something in the new storefront.
Kelly Crenshaw and Kate Suggs started their journey three years ago with an online shop. As time went on, it grew into a pop-up bus for events, and their first storefront in Cordele, Georgia. “Since we are from Cordele, there was a lot of pressure to do well,” Julie Melendez, employee, said. “You have some people that want you to fail, and you have people that support you, so on that opening day, we were nervous to see if anyone would come,” she continued.
Being in a college town can help boost the business and bring in great sales. “We are in a new town, and our main goal is to keep growing,” said Kate Suggs, one of the owners. “With this location, we really want to give back to the community,” she added.
Kelly and Kate worked with the Georgia Southern sororities to help bring in customers. Each sorority was given cards to hand out to their members to bring into the store on opening day. “At the end of the day, the sorority that had the most cards turned in will get 10% of our sales donated to them,” Melendez said.
Marketing is always a big focus when opening businesses. This boutique is no different. By utilizing various social media platforms, the online shop, the pop-up bus and more, the word gets out very quickly. To add on to their marketing efforts, they also have a billboard on I-75.
