Chances are you have noticed the race car parked outside the doors of the I.T. building on campus. Did you know that race car, also known as a Pro UTV Open Class, was built by students right here at Georgia Southern? These students are part of an organization called Eagle Motorsports, and in 2015 they used that vehicle to compete in a race called the Baja 1000 in Mexico.
You read that right, members design and manufacture 90 percent of the car and go on to compete in races internationally against other colleges each year.
No car experience? No problem!
Eagle Motorsports Vice President, Wyatt Wenger, exclaims that you need “no experience, none, zero,” when asked about knowledge needed to join the club.
For nearly 40 years, the club has offered opportunities for students to test their automotive knowledge, expand their engineering skills, and make a name for themselves in the automotive industry.
Outside of engineering, you will gain valuable skills such as marketing, resource management, communication, public relations, soft skills, and more by participating in this student organization.
“The thing I enjoyed the most is getting to meet with people who have the same interest as me and getting to work with them,” said Gabe Turner, Suspension Lead and Sponsorship Lead.
Interested in joining? Meetings are held in the Carruth Building in Room 1012 at 6 p.m. on Thursdays.
