“Peter and the Starcatcher” opens tonight at Georgia Southern, offering a unique and entertaining twist on the classic “Peter Pan” tale. This musical delves into the origin stories of both Peter Pan and Captain Hook, taking the audience on a fast-paced adventure filled with pirates, enchantment, and plenty of surprises.
Directed by Georgia Southern’s Director of Theatre, Lisa Abbot, the production brings to life a world of British sailing ships, swashbuckling pirates, and whimsical transformations—pirates turning into mermaids, among other unexpected moments. Abbot described the show as “ridiculous” in the best possible way, combining humor, adventure, and heart in a way that’s sure to appeal to both younger and older audiences.
The production also marks the first musical staged at Georgia Southern since the pandemic, making it an exciting return to live theater. The show features student-designed costumes, with handmaidens and pirates alike impressing on stage, while the cast’s singing and performances are sure to captivate.
Whether familiar with the “Peter Pan” story or not, “Peter and the Starcatcher” promises an engaging, entertaining experience. With clever writing, memorable songs, and a cast ready to bring the magic of Neverland to life, this is a production that’s not to be missed.
Thomas Schneider, a cast member that plays The Pirate Captain Blackstache described taking the role due to the character being intriguing.
“This character really stuck out and I love having fun on stage,” Schneider said.
