“A Murder Is Announced” is coming to Statesboro in the form of a community theatre play, with both local residents and Georgia Southern students starring in the production.
“A Murder Is Announced” is originally an Agatha Christie novel, her 50th detective story, released in June of 1950. It stars one of her famous detectives, Miss Jane Marple, as she picks up a case in a town she is visiting for treatment. Christy McClendon, who stars as Miss Marple in the play, says that the story revolves around, “An announcement put in the paper that a murder is going to take place at a certain time, a certain date, at a certain spot.” With neighbors stopping by to see if anything will happen, the suspect list increases, and Miss Marple must crack the case on who is responsible. “Everyone is a suspect until the end,” says McClendon.
Brooks Adams, co-director of this production describes the process of this play as “stop and start,” with breaks having to take place due to the holidays, Hurricane Helene, and the recent snowfall. Despite that, Brooks says that the play is on track to open this Friday, Feb. 14.
