A place where both professionals and aspiring film students come together to share hardworking projects, creative cinematic ideas, and unique stories brought to life on the screen, all united by one thing: cinema. Going into the theater, you never know if you’ll leave the same person. And that’s what makes movie-making such an honorable art.
Now entering its 28th year, the SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design) Savannah Film Festival continues to celebrate the best in cinema, featuring screenings, premieres, workshops, and lectures held across historic SCAD venues such as Trustees Theater, Lucas Theatre for the Arts, the SCAD Museum of Art, and Gutstein Gallery.
Bringing together filmmakers from around the world and giving students a front-row seat to professional creativity in action, it’s a movie-lover’s paradise!
The week-long film festival starts Saturday, October 25, and runs through November 1.
This event is filled with enriching experiences for newcomers and students who want to learn about screenwriting, filming, casting, and everything cinema in greater depth.
With Q&As and star guest panels, the audience can get to know firsthand from professional actors, directors, and writers, diving into the process behind the scenes. It’s an unforgettable learning experience for all film-lovers and those who want to break into the industry.
Each year, honored guests are presented with awards such as the Luminary Award, Rising Star Award, Lifetime Achievement Award, Vanguard Director Award, Outstanding Achievement in Television Award, and many more. These honors celebrate excellence and creativity across the film industry.
This year’s guests include Academy Award-winners Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Brendan Fraser, and Spike Lee, along with notable actors and directors such as Dylan O’Brien, Miles Teller, Spike Lee, Oscar Isaac, Mark Hamill, Amanda Seyfried, Dakota Fanning, Jon M. Chu, Will Arnett, Miles Caton, and more!
And of course, this is a university-led event, and there are tons of awards presented to hardworking students. These include honors like Best Student Short, Animated Short, Documentary Short, and others in the SCAD Savannah Film Festival Student Showcase. SCAD students often submit their own films and are recognized alongside professional filmmakers.
