On Sunday, NFL teams announced their final roster cuts before opening week, and six former Georgia Southern players made their respective rosters.

The number is a record for the program as three rookies joined three veteran former Eagles in the league.

The Rookies

Matt Breida made the cut in San Francisco, where some experts say he may even be the No. 2 back behind veteran Carlos Hyde. Breida was undrafted but impressed the staff in the Bay Area in training camp and throughout the preseason.

Younghoe Koo made the Los Angeles Chargers, and he will be the starter after the team cut former kicker Josh Lambo last week. He is the second undrafted rookie from GS to sign with an NFL team this year.

Finally, fifth-round draft pick Ukueme Eligwe made the Kansas City Chiefs roster, and he will likely play, sparingly at first, on one of the top defenses in the league.

Rookie wideout BJ Johnson III is on injured reserve after a hurting his hamstring this summer in San Francisco.

The Veterans

Jerick McKinnon made the Vikings’ cut, safety J.J. Wilcox was traded from Tampa Bay to Pittsburgh on Sunday and linebacker Edwin Jackson made the Colts initial roster.
