STATESBORO — Bulloch County has one confirmed case of COVID-19 listed by the Georgia Department of Public Health on their Daily Status Report as of noon Sunday.

The listing comes after Statesboro’s Mayor Jonathan McCollar announced Saturday morning that a Bulloch County resident was diagnosed with the virus Friday afternoon.

The DPH’s list is based on the patient’s county of residence when known, not the county where the patient is diagnosed. A Statesboro family medicine practice reported that a patient tested positive for COVID-19 on March 24, but they did not confirm the patient’s county of residence.

Out of Bulloch County’s seven bordering counties, four of them have also made the list. The noon Sunday status report shows seven cases in Bryan County, four cases in Effingham County and one case each for Jenkins County and Candler County.

Evans County, Screven County and Emmanuel County, which also border Bulloch County, remain at zero confirmed cases on the DPH’s list.

Beyond Statesboro and nearby areas, Georgia Southern University’s Armstrong and Liberty campuses are located in counties with confirmed COVID-19 cases. Chatham County has had 15 cases, and Liberty County has three, according to the DPH.

No coronavirus-related deaths have been reported at any of the counties mentioned above, according to the DPH.

People ages 60 and older have had 35% of the Georgia COVID-19 cases reported by the DPH, with minors making up less than 1% of the cases and adults ages 18 to 59 having more than half of the diagnoses.
