STATESBORO — A family medicine practice in Statesboro said in a Facebook post that one of their patients tested positive for COVID-19 Tuesday.

Southern Family Medicine Statesboro said in their Thursday afternoon post that the Georgia Department of Public Health is conducting social contract tracing to help minimize risk to nearby communities.

The practice said their staff members who interacted with the patient wore protective gear, including N95 masks and gloves, but they said they have no evidence that their staff experienced increased exposure.

“CDC algorithm indicates that this was a low-risk exposure. The patient was seen on our isolation hallway, using a separate entrance, which we set up for just this scenario,” the practice wrote in the Facebook post.

The George-Anne called the Southeast Health District of the Georgia DPH to verify the Facebook post, but a spokesperson said they could not comment on county cases.

At press time, Bulloch County has not appeared on the Georgia DPH’s Daily Status Report showing confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Georgia counties. To keep up with the report, which is updated daily at noon and 7 p.m., follow this link.

The practice states that they will remain open and are currently offering telemedicine, which allows patients who are concerned about exposure to the virus to talk with their medical provider from home.

“We will continue testing our patients due to appropriate symptoms or exposure. Our current testing supplies and capacity are not restricted and we are testing all patients who meet indications,” the post reads.
