The Georgia Southern track and field team had another successful meet on the young season this weekend when they competed in the Garden Hilton Invitational in Winston Salem, N.C.

Kelsey Arnold had another solid weekend as she continues to headline a strong weight throw program. On day one, she placed third with a distance of 17.39 m.

“Kelsey stepped up and showed her leadership on the team. She really is coming into her own, and I am very proud of her. I love watching the progression,” said Carter, in a press release.

She also competed well in the shot put event. Arnold and sophomore Samantha Cook both posted personal bests in the event on day two. Assistant coach Brittany Cox won the event, however, with a throw of 15.88 m.

“Our throws program is really strong, and we expect great performances from them. Coach Cox is teaching and leading by example,” said Carter, in a press release. “The girls really enjoy it when she competes with them, and she does a great job of breaking things down for them.”

The Eagles had other girls who competed at the tournament. Keyanna Harris finished fourth in the high jump with a 1.67 m. Nia Hill posted a team season best and new personal best of 5.28 m in the long jump. Jordan Fordham qualified for the 60 meter dash finals and finished 21 overall.

The distance medley relay team posted a season best time of 13:02.59. Ashton Long, Leigha Long, Karli Koning and Rebecca Parker finished seventh in the event.

The Eagles will take next weekend off before traveling to Birmingham, Alabama to compete in the Samford Invite and Multi.
