GSU Eagles take on GSU Panthers

The battle of the GSUs will once again take place on Saturday as the Georgia Southern men’s soccer team takes on the Georgia State Panthers.

Georgia Southern is currently 7-7 overall and 3-1 in their conference, while Georgia State is 7-9 overall and 2-2 in their conference. In 2013, the Eagles lost to the Panthers by one goal with a final score of 2-1. The Eagles were also defeated in 2012 in a 3-0 shutout in Atlanta.

Though the Eagles have lost to the Panthers in recent match-ups, they hope to change that this year. Georgia State’s soccer team only beat Presbyterian College 1-0, while Georgia Southern defeated PC 5-0. GSU also defeated the New Jersey Institute of Technology and Hartwick, while the Panthers were defeated by both of them.

The Eagles’ most recent win against NJIT has put the team two points ahead of Hartwick in the Sun Belt conference standings.

Following the match against in-state rival Georgia State, the Eagles will host the 2014 Sun Belt Men’s Soccer Tournament. The winner of this tournament will earn a bid to the NCAA tournament.
