The Georgia Southern Men’s Soccer team was defeated by the University of North Carolina Tar Heels 6-2 on Tuesday night.

Coming off a win against the Appalachian State Mountaineers, the Eagles seemed unable to make anything happen in the match against the Tar Heels until the last minute. Just four minutes into the game, the Tar Heels scored their first goal. Only a minute later, they scored a second goal, making the score 0-2.

The Tar Heels scored again in the 35th, 68th and 84th minutes, making the score 0-5. Just when it seemed as if the match was going to be a shutout, the Eagles scored their first goal of the game in the 84th minute. The Tar Heels retaliated with another goal minutes later, which the Eagles also answered with their second goal of the game.

When the final horn sounded, the Eagles were defeated 6-2 by the Tar Heels. Though the Eagles didn’t face UNC last year, the two teams met in 2012 where GSU was defeated 0-2 in Chapel Hill.

The Eagles take the field at home on Sunday afternoon at 2pm against the New Jersey Institute of Technology. The Eagles are currently 6-0-7 in their season while the NJIT Highlanders are 7-4-5.
