If there was ever a baseball game in which one team dominated all phases of the game

imaginable, it was played tonight in J.I. Clements Stadium.

Georgia Southern University embarrassed the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore 23-0.

But before we get down to the details, allow me to acquaint you with the Hawks of UMES.

The historically-black college is located in Princess Anne, MD., just below Delaware on the east

coast. Out of 53 games played last year, they won only eight of them. They hit a team-total of

five home runs in those 53 games. Not one pitcher had under a 5.00 ERA.

Junior LHP Sam Howard threw a gem against the Hawks. He pitched seven innings, gave up no

runs on two hits and struck out 12. His fastball hung around 91 mph with good movement and

the Hawks didn’t sniff it. Howard upped his record to 2-0 on the season with a 0.00 ERA in front

of a sparse audience and a couple of MLB scouts.

As for the offense, it would be easier to list the players without hits than to name all the guys

with big nights – it was that kind of game.

The Eagles totaled 23 hits.

Senior outfielder Stryker Brown, junior catcher Chase Griffin, junior outfielder Kody Adams and

senior utility-man Garren Palmer all homered tonight.

GSU improves to 4-1 on the season and will have a chance to jump to 6-1 tomorrow after a

double-header against the Hawks. The first game is set for 4 p.m.
