Today from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m., patrons of Buffalo Wild Wings have a chance for 10 percent of their total bill to be donated to the Ferst Foundation of Bulloch County if they show a flyer found on the foundation’s Facebook page.

The Ferst Foundation for Childhood Literacy was founded in 1999 and provides a free book every month until the child turns five. These books are picked with the child’s reading level in mind. These books are completely free as long as the parents register their child for this program.

Kasey Duggins, senior childhood education major, has been working with the foundation for two weeks, but already knows that it’s her passion.

“I finally quit my job and I was able to make my whole schedule wide open, and this is something that I’ve always been wanting to do.” Duggins said.

Even though she plans on being either a math or science teacher, she realizes the importance of a child having a good reading background.

“If they don’t have a great reading background, then it’s hard to work with them. So you fall behind before you really get ahead almost,” Duggins said.

The Ferst Foundation has many fundraisers throughout the year even though this is their first one this semester. In the fall, they had a bowling tournament where companies formed teams to raise money.

owntown Statesboro for parents to sign their children up for the program. There are also more planned fundraisers throughout the year.

According to the website, there is a potential enrollment of 4,197 students in Bulloch County for the Foundation, so Duggins is really hoping this fundraiser at the popular Statesboro restaurant works out.
