Lady Eagles take conference victory over Western Carolina

Coming off of two straight losses, the Georgia Southern University women’s

basketball team (6-3, SoCon 4-4) was able to capture a win today over Southern

Conference opponent Western Carolina University (9-10, SoCon 3-5).

The first half began with each team struggling for the lead. Senior guard Mimi

Dubose was able to knock down two three-pointers, which tied her with the school

record of 167. GSU was forced to head in at half down 26-27.

The Lady Eagles took the court with vengeance in the second half. They held WCU

to six straight scoreless minutes. The Catamounts began to mount a comeback, but

were undone by a 2-14 run. As the clock ran out GSU took the victory 63-56.

Junior guard Anna Claire Knight finished the game with 17 points, followed by

Dubose with 14. The team shot a season-high 51 percent from the floor.

The Lady Eagles will travel to Appalachian State University for their next conference

match on Monday night at 6pm.
