Men’s soccer hires new goalkeeper’s coach
January 16, 2014
The Georgia Southern University men’s soccer program has officially hired former
University of Jamestown assistant coach Phil Boerger as the new goalkeepers coach
for the 2014 season.
Boerger began his career as a player at the University of Evansville, where he played
in over 50 matches before transferring his senior year to Syracuse University.
Throughout his career he allowed only 1.35 goals against per game and boasts nine
shutouts.
Following his final season Boerger worked as an undergraduate assistant at
Syracuse before accepting a position at the University of Jamestown during 2013.
The Eagles were in search of a new goalkeepers coach after former coach Ryan
Lewis accepted a position at Ole Soccer Academy in Wellington, New Zealand.
GSU ended last season allowing only 1.42 goals per game. Speculation still
surrounds what conference they will participate in during the 2014 season but the
hiring of Boerger shows that they are preparing for a successful year.
