Monken’s departure not official
December 22, 2013
The news that Head Coach Jeff Monken will be leaving Georgia Southern University to coach at
Army broke earlier this afternoon, but no announcement has been made by either school.
Sal Interdonato (@salinterdonato), football reporter for the Times-Herald Recorder, was first to break the news.
My source with knowledge of the Army Football Program is informing me that Jeff Monken will become the 37th head coach of the Black Knights

However, Sports Illustrated writer Pete Thamel (@SIPeteThamel) tweeted later this afternoon
that ‘Army has not yet made a decision on its next football coach.’ He went on to say that
Army will not finish conducting interviews until tomorrow.

WSAV, NBCSports.com and FootballScoop.com were among many other news outlets to report
the move but none have provided any hard evidence beyond citing sources.
Army’s athletic director Boo Corrigan has no comment on the head coaching position at this
time according to Interdonato.
An announcement is expected to be made Monday.
Neither GSU Athletic Director Tom Kleinlein nor Monken could be reached for comment.
