Women’s basketball falls in conference opener 67-62

The Georgia Southern University women’s basketball team (2-7, SoCon 0-1)

was defeated in a nail-biter in its Southern Conference opener against Furman

University (5-4, SoCon 1-0), despite being within two points late Furman triumphed

67-62.

The Eagles jumped out to an early 33-30 lead at the half. They tried to carry that

lead through to the second half but were unable to keep up with the Paladins who

managed 37 points in the second half.

Junior guard Anna Claire Knight led the team with 19 points and was closely trailed

by senior point guard Mimi Dubose who racked up 17 on the night.. Sophomore

forward took control of the boards for GSU as she totaled 14 rebounds.

The Eagles will remain at home on Monday when they will be visited by Wofford

College. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
