Elon University cut the Georgia Southern University men’s soccer team short by a score of 5-1.

It was déjà vu as EU bested the Eagles for a second straight year in the semifinals of the Southern Conference tournament and this time it would be by a large margin.

“Credit to Elon, they made things difficult for us early,” head coach Kevin Kennedy said in a news release. “We made some mistakes and they capitalized quickly and put us down two goals. We tried to push back, but it wasn’t our night tonight.”

The Eagles gave up four first half goals to the Phoenix with both junior forward Jason Waterman and sophomore James Brace scoring a team leading 10 goals for the season.

GSU would end up scoring late in the second half with a goal from senior Witt Carlisle, playing in his final collegiate game to score his team leading eighth goal of the season.

GSU finishes the year up with a record of 9-10 and for the second straight time their season ends in the semifinals of the SoCon tournament.
