The Georgia Southern University women’s soccer team fell to Western Carolina University this afternoon 2-1.

The loss was the second of the weekend for the Eagles, now 1-2-1 in the Southern Conference.

GSU seemed to have the match in hand, with a goal from sophomore forward Nora El-Shami in the 25th minute.

Junior goalkeeper Molly Williams kept six shots out of the goal until a late penalty kick tied the game for WCU.

In the 83rd minute the Eagles left a lane open and Western Carolina scored on a shot from the wing.

Overall, Williams was pleased with her team’s performance.  “We played well, and with heart we just got unlucky a couple times,” Williams said.

The Eagles will look to regroup this Thursday in a non-conference game against Francis Marion University. The game will be held on Eagle Field at 7 p.m.
