STATESBORO — In the final game of the season, the Georgia Southern football team defeated the Georgia State Panthers, 38-10. 

With a 7-5 record, GS looks to wrap up the season with a bowl win as they wait to find out which bowl they’ll be playing in.

Here’s a quick look at the victory:

Top performers

Junior running backs J.D. King and Wesley Kennedy III both scored a rushing TD, with King scoring three touchdowns total. 

After starting the game with a three-and-out the Eagles proceeded to outscore the Panthers, 38-3. 

Senior defensive tackle Ty Phillips finished his collegiate career with one sack and three total tackles with one for loss.

Key Stat

The Eagles managed to stop the Panthers on 3 out of 4 fourth-down conversions, with two of the stops leading to 14 points. 

Key Play

King scored a 30-yard rushing TD midway through the fourth quarter. He extended the lead 38-10 and put the finishing touches on the blowout win. He finished the game with 107 yards and three touchdowns.

Junior running back J.D. King had a strong game, after missing last week’s Arkansas State game due to injury, with a three touchdown rushing performance.
