Iron Man overrated, giant fish monsters to impress
May 1, 2013
Must watch
Superman’s newest look in “Man of Steel” appears ready to finally give the widely loved hero his time in the sun. With a cast led by Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Russel Crowe, Michael Shannon and Kevin Costner I don’t think there is any conceivable way this movie could fail. Besides, when was the last time Christopher Nolan was involved with a bad movie?
“Elysium”
In his first directing role since the critically acclaimed “District 9,” Director Neill Blomkamp returns to the world of sci-fi with a budget of nearly quadruple that of his Oscar-nominated hit. This time around he’s lined up Oscar-winners Matt Damon and Jodie Foster for the leads. From what we’ve seen from the trailer, the movie looks in the same vein of modern political and social commentary set in an extreme future as “District 9” was. No complaints here.
If my childhood got a hold of a heavy dose of steroids, a shot of whiskey and Guillermo Del Toro, this movie would likely be the result. What the trailers show us is essentially giant alien fish fist-fighting giant humanoid robots. Need I say more?
Wait for DVD
A ton of people are looking forward to this movie being great, but I can’t get “Iron Man 2” out of my head. If you managed to not be mesmerized by Robert Downey Jr.’s trademark wit you would’ve noticed the clear drop off from the first to the second film. It’s tough to find a reason to expect anything more out of the third installment of this already belabored series.
