The No.7 seeded Georgia Southern University baseball team defeated the College of Charleston 2-0 to advance to the winner’s bracket of the Southern Conference Tournament.

The game was set for 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday but it was postponed for Thursday at 10 a.m. The victory was the right prescription for the Eagles after suffering the series sweep at the hands of CofC to end the 2013 regular season.

Senior first baseman T.D. Davis hit a two-run homer in the first inning and that was all the Eagle bats needed to muster. Senior starting pitcher Justin Hess tossed a complete game shutout and baffled Cougar hitters all game. Hess, who threw a whopping 141 pitches, let up only four hits over nine innings and tallied 10 strikeouts.

GSU’s next opponent will be No.6 Furman University, in which first pitch is set for 8:30 p.m. Thursday. Furman defeated No.3 Elon University 10-1on Wednesday.
