Georgia Southern women’s soccer showed up with a 2-1 victory Sunday night over the visiting Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks. Senior and leading scorer Frida Brattum knocked in the Eagles’ first goal of the day off an assist from freshman Dani Coumbs.

The goal was Brattum’s eighth of the season, six more than the next closest Eagle. ULM’s McKenzie Rizqi tied the contest in minute 69, but goalkeeper Lauren Karinshak saved six other Warhawk attempts to keep the Eagles competitive.

Freshman Karin Winka sent the seniors home victorious with a goal in minute 84, only her second of the season, with a penalty kick assist from Elsa Borjesson. GS’s two goals on a messy field were, at least in part, the result of a season high in shot attempts- 20.

GS honored seven seniors pregame, Nicole Aussin, Elsa Borjesson, Frida Brattum, Halle Huff, Courtney Johnson, Lauren Karinshak and Marcela Montoya.

The match improved the Eagles to 6-8-1 (3-4-1) with two matches left, an improvement over 2018’s 5-12 (3-7) record for first year interim head coach Josh Moffet.

GS travels to Louisiana Lafayette Oct. 25 and closes the regular season at Texas State two days later.
