The annual Undergraduate Juried Exhibition and Form & Content opened today in the Center for Art and Theatre and will close on April 19.

The two exhibitions displays artistic achievement and work produced by students in core art classes. A reception and awards presentation for the artists will be held Friday April 12 from 5-7 p.m.

“This exhibition takes place to highlight and celebrate the work that is done in core art classes that are usually looked over. It provides the opportunity for students in these courses to get a chance to show their work to peers and the public,” Marc Mitchell, gallery director and assistant professor, said.

The work of students in foundational courses including Drawing I, Drawing II, 2-D Design and 3-D Design are showcased in the Form & Content Exhibition, which is being judged by Paul LaJeunesse, a member of the art department at Georgia State University.

“It’s a reward for the hard work we put in to see our work shown.  As an art student, people always ask ‘What are you working on?’ and it’s great to be able to show them,” Zach Blount, a senior 2-D studio art major, said.

The Undergraduate Juried Exhibition showcases work submitted from students of the BFSDoArt regardless of level and discipline, and is in the Contemporary Gallery.  It is being judged by Phillip Counselman, chair of the art department at the University of Mobile in Alabama.

Drew Pate, a senior 2-D studio art major, said, “I think it’s great for us as students to see what other students are doing across the board not just in our own disciplines and it gives us experience that we can take into the professional world.”
