A four-run ninth inning for Kennesaw State University propelled the Owls past Georgia Southern University on Wednesday night and handed the Eagles its fifth loss in a row.

A back and forth affair that featured four lead changes ended in an 8-3 loss for the Eagles (21-16, 10-8 Southern Conference). The Owls (20-19, 8-7 Atlantic Sun Conference) beat GSU for the second time this season. The Eagles committed four errors in the game.

GSU trailed by only one run heading into the last inning. Hope was still alive and the fans were still loud. But by the time the Eagles got out of the top of the ninth, four runs were scored on three hits and head coach Rodney Hennon was ejected from the game.

Any bottom-of-the-ninth heroics failed to show up.

In the fourth inning, junior infielder Stryker Brown stroked a line-drive solo home run down the right field line to put GSU ahead 2-1. After a run scored for KSU in the top of the fifth, junior outfielder Robbie Dodds added a solo shot of his own in the bottom half of the inning to give the lead back to the Eagles 3-2.

The recent slide for the home team has been bolstered by a struggling offense. Perhaps the best descriptor of the lack of runs can be told by the long-ball totals. Wednesday night’s home runs were the first home runs hit by the team in the month of April in which the team is 3-7. In the month of March GSU was 14-5 and hit 14 homeruns in that span.

The Eagles will try to get back in the win column this weekend on the road against Western Carolina University.
