After eight games ending in the win column for the Georgia Southern University baseball team, the University of North Carolina-Greensboro beat the Eagles on Friday 5-4 in walk-off fashion.

The bases were loaded in the bottom of the ninth for the Spartans (13-13, 2-6 Southern Conference) when a pop fly down the right field line dropped in front of junior outfielder Robbie Dodds to score the winning run. The Eagles (18-8, 9-2 SoCon) dropped its first game since March 15 when the team fell to Samford University.

Senior pitcher Justin Hess (3-3) was tagged with the loss although not much blame rested on his shoulders. He came on in relief in the eighth inning for freshman starter Jason Richman. In the ninth inning Hess recorded a strikeout to start the inning, but the pitch got away from catcher Chase Griffin and the runner advanced to first base on the play. The rest of his time on the mound consisted of a sacrifice bunt, two intentional walks and a hit before he gave up the final hit that won the game.

Richman pitched into the eighth inning for the second start in a row on Friday. He allowed four runs on 11 hits in his 7.1 innings of work.

Sophomore Tyler Avera kept his bat hot as he was responsible for two of the teams six hits and two of its three RBI. Senior T.D. Davis knocked in the other run on his 1 for 4 performance.

GSU will need to win on Saturday to keep its SoCon series win streak alive. First pitch in Greensboro is set for 2 p.m.
