Inefficient shooting, especially from beyond the arc, led to a 63-52 loss for the Georgia Southern University women’s basketball team.

The Eagles were only 16.7 percent on 3-18 shooting from three point land on Wednesday night at Western Carolina University. GSU only made one of eight shots from downtown in the first half which set the pace for not only the rest of the half, but for the rest of the game.

With not even 3:00 gone from the clock in the second half, the Catamounts were up by ten points; a margin the Eagles would never make up.

GSU outrebounded and shot better free throws than WCU on Wednesday night. The team even shot an overall field goal percentage of 33 percent. The difference was simply that the Catamounts were more efficient not only in overall field goal percentage, but from beyond the arc as well.

Senior guard Meredith Frye, who has had a quiet season after leading the team in points per game last year as a junior, tallied the most points for the Eagles with 20. Frye was 6-14 from the floor and 7-8 on free throws. She also pulled in seven rebounds.

Sophomore guard Anna Claire Knight and junior forward Danielle Spencer both finished the night in double digits as well. Knight ended with 11 points and six rebounds and Spencer ended with 10 points and eight rebounds.

The Eagles return to Statesboro for Saturday night contest against Samford University. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
