Tough weekend ends in victory

Georgia Southern University’s softball team defeated Florida Gulf Coast University 4-2 to cap off an action packed weekend of games.

GSU was pushed to extra innings for the third time in three days as FGCU jumped out to an early lead.  The Eagles were down 2-0 until a single by sophomore second baseman Lexi Allen put GSU on the board in the top of the sixth inning.

Junior shortstop Kourtny Thomas followed Allen with an RBI single to tie the game at 2-2.

At the top of the seventh inning the seniors on the team stepped up and took over.  Senior first baseman Tabby Douberley singled with the bases loaded to put GSU on top for good.

After a 3-2 weekend that included three extra inning games the Eagles can rest and get ready for the Citrus Classic that starts Friday in Florida.
