Knight named Student-Athlete of the Week
January 24, 2013
Sophomore guard Anna Claire Knight of the Georgia Southern University’s women’s basketball team was named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week, the league office announced yesterday.
Knight was responsible for lifting the Eagles to a 61-58 victory over Wofford College Sunday with a three-pointer she scored as the buzzer sounded. This was the second game-winning, buzzer-beating shot of her career.
Knight led the Eagles with 16 points and added six rebounds and a blocked shot in GSU’s single game of the week. She also ranks second on the team in scoring with 9.3 points per game and leads the Eagles in rebounding with 5.8 a game.
The pre-sports management major holds a 3.78 grade point average.
Knight joins senior volleyball setter Kate Van Dyke and senior outside hitter Moriah Bellissimo as the third Eagle to earn this honor.
GSU starts a two-game road trip at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro on Saturday. The Eagles will then face Elon University on the road Monday, and after that they will face off against seven of their final 10 opponents at home in Hanner Fieldhouse.
