The Eagles received the No. 5 seed today in the field of 20 that will compete for the FCS national championship to be hosted in Frisco, Texas on Jan. 5.

Georgia Southern University is one of three Southern Conference teams (Appalachian State and Wofford College) to be invited to the playoffs. All three teams had identical records of 6-2 in conference play.

The Eagles first game will be on Dec. 1 when they host University of Central Arkansas (9-2, 6-1 in the Southland Conference).

This will be GSU’s 19th playoff appearance and GSU’s season ticket holders can begin purchasing tickets today.

GSU owns a 43-12 all-time record in post-season play, and has more championships than any other FCS program coming in at six.

The road to a seventh national championship for GSU looks to include a rematch of last season’s second round playoff game against Old Dominion, and a matchup against top seeded North Dakota State in the national semifinals.

GSU will kick off against UCA at 2 p.m. in Paulson Stadium Dec. 1.
