Women’s soccer is championship game bound
November 2, 2012
History was made tonight as Georgia Southern University women’s soccer team is championship game bound for the first time after a 1-0 win over the Elon University Phoenix.
Freshman forward Emily Hirano came out strong and sent a header into the back of the net off an assist by senior forward Courtney Collins in the first minute of the second overtime.
The game was a slugfest fought by two conference rivals playing with nothing to lose. GSU is seeded eighth in the Southern Conference tournament, but that meant nothing on the pitch tonight.
GSU will be 90 minutes away from the first championship in team history on Oct. 4. The Furman University Paladins or the College of Charleston Cougars will be the only thing standing in their way.
