The Georgia Southern University men’s basketball team came up short against the University of North Carolina at Charlotte 49ers, losing 66-53, making them 0-2 to start the season.

The game was a tale of two halves for the Eagles.

GSU started out slow in the first half. The Eagles were down 12-6 early in the game.

They managed to make a surge after men’s basketball head coach Charlton Young received a technical foul call after a controversial foul was called on freshmen Cleon Roberts.

GSU trailed at the half 37-34. Junior Eric Ferguson led the team with 11 points and five rebounds.

Forward Chris Braswell, who recorded 16 points and eight rebounds at the half, led the 49ers.

Then the tides turned for the Eagles. GSU came out of the half flat, going cold on offense, not recording a point until almost 14 minutes left in the half.

The 49ers held Ferguson scoreless the entire second half. He finished the game going 3-13 from the field with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Braswell finished with a double-double posting 21 points and 12 rebounds against the Eagles.

The Eagles’ home opener is Friday night at 7 p.m.at Hanner Fieldhouse against Webber International University.
