Georgia Southern University’s freshman libero Alexandra Beecher received the Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the second-consecutive week and the third time this season.

Beecher set a GSU record with 40 digs in Saturday’s 3-2 win over Western Carolina University. Stacy Lewis, who set the mark against Appalachian State University in 1995, set the previous record of 33 digs. This win extended the Eagles’ winning streak to nine matches.

Beecher averaged eight digs per set and also added three assists, an ace, and a kill. She currently leads the team in digs with 459, and averages 4.64 digs per set. The freshman also leads the team in service aces with 27 so far this season.

In the Eagles’ current winning streak Beecher averages 5.09 digs per set and has posted 20 or more digs in 11 matches this season so far, including the last three.

This is the fourth SoCon Weekly award the freshman has received. Beecher was named Defensive Player of the Week for week two, week 10 and now week 11 and was also named Freshman of the Week for week four.
